Global Recycling Day 2023: Green Tips!
It’s Global Recycling Day and the Neg Team are keen to work towards sustainability and do our bit for the environment wherever possible. After all, where would Neg be without the Earth?!
With that in mind, our team would like to share some quick and easy tips to encourage us all to reduce, reuse and recycle more at work and at home.
- Start at the top of the hierarchy for each form of waste and only go down to the next level if you can’t achieve the current level.
- Contact suppliers to see if they can deliver items in recyclable or more sustainable packaging – if more clients ask the question, they are more likely to find alternative packaging for their products – don’t ditch, switch!
- Encourage staff to bring in their lunch from home using reusable containers. This will reduce single use food packaging and save money at the same time!
- We’ve all switched to more online meetings, so share documents on screen rather than printing – if you still need to print, set printers to double-sided where possible or use the other side for notes.
- Whether reusable (bubble wrap) or recyclable (cardboard boxes and brown paper stuffing) or sustainable (cloth), all types of packaging can be reused.
- Create bin signage in the workplace, making it clear to your workforce what items go in recycling bins and what goes into general waste – a greater awareness will mean your joint efforts won’t go to waste.
- Double check that you are maximising their service, there may be waste streams that you can add to your regular collections or hazardous waste. Everyday workplace items such as lithium-ion batteries can present a very real fire risk when not stored or disposed of properly. Additional waste streams include used and broken lightbulbs too!
- See whether there is a local upcycling centre that will use unwanted items and materials to repurpose or upgrade them into practical solutions or artistic features. We have just teamed up with “Remade in Park Royal” to do just that! Stay tuned for more details!
- Energy from waste – do you know exactly where your general waste goes? Ask your waste contractor if they convert general waste to energy, rather than taking it to landfill.
That’s a wrap! We’re all in this together – happy reducing, reusing and recycling!
